Spider-Man, the Broadway Musical?

By Mark Ramsey | April 21, 2007 | Permanent link

spiderman.jpgYes, that's no joke. Well, it's not intended to be one, anyway.

It looks like your favorite neighborhood webslinger is swinging to the Great White Way, music courtesy of U2's Bono and The Edge.

"We've always wanted to have an audience of blue-hairs," said Bono, "where the blue wasn't just a punk fashion statement."

And where does Spider-Man go from there, given the comics and action figures and cartoons and games and movies? "We've conquered every corner of the entertainment universe," said proud Spidey papa Stan Lee, "except for Karaoke night at the Holiday Inn by the freeway - and that's only because they won't return our calls, the bastards!"

"But first," said Lee, "we're launching a Spider-Man theme restaurant because nothing mixes like spiders and food!"

The real Spider-Man couldn't be reached for comment because he was demonstrating web-shooting at a 5-year-old's birthday party in Hackensack, N.J.

The Broadway Show, tentatively titled "Spider-Man of La Mancha," opens in 2008.
